Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has said Artificial Intelligence (AI) will not destroy humanity.
The billionaire was asked his thoughts about claims from doomsayers like Elon Musk, who fear super-intelligent AI will wipe out our species, reports The Sun.
“I have pretty strong opinions on this. I am optimistic,” he said.
“I think you can build things and the world gets better. But with AI especially, I am really optimistic.
“And I think people who are naysayers and try to drum up these doomsday scenarios — I just, I don’t understand it.
“It’s really negative and in some ways I actually think it is pretty irresponsible.
“In the next five to ten years, AI is going to deliver so many improvements in the quality of our lives.”
He said AI could allow driverless cars to drive much better than humans, cutting down on accidents, or let machines diagnose cancer with incredible accuracy.
Musk hit back by claiming Zuck had a “limited” understanding of the topic.
The Tesla founder recently said humanity needs to act now to stop artificial intelligence and killer robots wiping us out.
He also claimed AI “is a fundamental risk to the existence of human civilisation”.
